Caregiver Immigration Program
The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot are two pilot programs that were launched in 2019 to provide a pathway to permanent residency for qualified foreign nationals who wish to work as caregivers in Canada.
The Home Child Care Provider Pilot is designed for caregivers who are qualified to provide care for children in a home setting. The program requires applicants to have a job offer from a Canadian employer and meet specific eligibility requirements, including language proficiency, education, and work experience. Applicants must also provide evidence of a Canadian equivalency of their foreign educational credentials and obtain a Police Clearance Certificate.
Similarly, the Home Support Worker Pilot is designed for caregivers who are qualified to provide care for seniors or people with disabilities. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements, including a valid job offer, language proficiency, education, and work experience. They must also provide evidence of a Canadian equivalency of their foreign educational credentials and obtain a Police Clearance Certificate.
Both pilot programs offer a pathway to permanent residency in Canada for qualified caregivers. Successful applicants will be granted a work permit, which will allow them to work and live in Canada for up to two years. After gaining the required work experience, caregivers can then apply for permanent residency.
The Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot are part of the Canadian government’s commitment to ensuring that the country has the necessary skilled workforce to meet the needs of its growing economy and aging population. They offer an opportunity for qualified caregivers to come to Canada, work, and contribute to the country’s economy, while also offering a pathway to permanent residency.
