Working Without Work Permit
In general, it is illegal to work in Canada without a valid work permit. Foreign nationals who work in Canada without the proper authorization may be subject to penalties, including removal from Canada and future inadmissibility.
However, there are some situations where a foreign national may be able to work in Canada without a work permit. Some examples of situations where work may be permitted without a work permit include:
Business Visitors: Foreign nationals who are entering Canada to engage in international business activities, such as attending business meetings or conferences, may be able to work in Canada without a work permit.
Short-term Foreign Workers: In some cases, foreign nationals may be able to work in Canada for a short period of time without a work permit. For example, performing artists, athletes, and certain film and television production crews may be exempt from the work permit requirement under certain circumstances.
International Students: International students in Canada may be able to work on campus or off campus without a work permit, or they may be eligible for a co-op work permit or post-graduation work permit.
Working Holiday Programs: Young people from certain countries may be eligible for a work permit under Canada’s International Experience Canada program, which allows them to work and travel in Canada for up to two years.
It’s important to note that these exemptions are limited in scope and are subject to specific eligibility requirements. Before working in Canada without a work permit, it’s important to carefully review the relevant regulations and seek advice from a qualified immigration professional.
