Designated Learning Institue
Not any learning institute in Canada can accept international students. In order to be eligible to apply for study permit, the school that the student intent to study at must be a Designated Learning Institute.
A Designated Learning Institute is a school approved by a provincial government to accept international students. A list of approved Designated Learning Institutes can be found here.
After communicating with the school, and sending all the documents (as required by the school) and paying the registration fee, the school will provide the applicant with letter of acceptance. The letter of acceptance is mandatory document in study permit application. The only exception is if the applicant is a family member of a worker or student in Canada whose application for work permit or study permit is approved before entering Canada.
The letter of acceptance issued by the school shows the name, address, contact information, and school DLI number; also it shows the name, address, date of birth of the student, and information on the study program.
